April 2, 2011 is one of the greatest days for Indian cricket. 9 years ago, MS Dhoni gave a billion Indian cricket fans plenty of joy as he guided India to World Cup glory at home in the final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
It is triumph that will be remembered for ages as India had waited for 27 years, 9 months and 7 days to add 2nd World Cup to their kitty.
Whenever the history of how India won the 2011 World Cup will be written, the scars of the disaster in the 2007 World Cup will always find a mention.
After the disappointment of losing the final in 2003 at the hands of Australia, the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean was supposed to be the fairytale moment for a plethora of stalwarts in the Indian side. But destiny had other plans as under Rahul Dravid's captaincy, India suffered their worst World Cup campaign in the Caribbeans in 2007, since the all-lost one in 1979.
